Product Development Engineer

Construction Specialties, Inc. in Cranford, NJ sells and/ormanufactures architectural specialties including louvers, grilles, suncontrols, explosion & pressure relief vents.
Cranford is currently looking for a Product DevelopmentEngineer.
Conducts and engages in innovation, new productdevelopment, product testing, and product/process improvement aligned withstrategic product development goals. Provides high level consultativeleadership to projects. Goals are cross-functionalmulti-skilled development, focusing on producing tangible product incrementswithin a short time frame.

Drives cross-functional teamdevelopment (across CS locations when suitable) of New Product Development(NPD) initiatives with a goal of production readiness and commercialization.
Breaks down complex product ideasinto actionable technical tasks. Design these technical tasks with the goal ofproducing tangible results within a short duration of time.
Studies and recommends techniques toimprove existing products. Performs detailed internal and external tests on awide range of products and/or product samples. Compiles comprehensive testreports to ensure knowledge is shared among team.
Conducts research, plans andexecutes trials. Summarizes research and trials through detailed reports.
Locates and interfaces with outsidevendors of materials and/or processes as required in support of NPD initiativesand completing technical tasks.
Constructs, tests and fabricatesphysical prototypes of potential new designs. Produces high quality prototypereports that address this prototype's material usage, building process, testresults, cost information, and sustainability evaluations.
At certain locations, may head upvarious projects by supervising at the group level of construction and testingof pilot models and components, competitive models, quality control checkouts,etc.
Performs basic costing activitiesincluding return on investment (ROI) calculations.
Develops, adapts, analyzes andensures accuracy of drawings, calculations and specifications to suit clientneeds.
Provides coaching and guidance tomanufacturing operations to solve difficult problem and technical issues asrequested.
Keeps well informed on newdevelopments in the product development field through contact with educationalinstitutions, professional societies, manufacturers and trade shows, perusal oftexts, technical papers, journals and periodicals.
Recommends capital expendituresalong with sales and production methods for new products.
Keeps abreast of new developments,materials or processes for use in adaptations to organization products.Participates in trade association and code regulating bodies on behalf of thecompany.
Actively participates in alllearning opportunities with the goal to further build cross-functionality andself-sufficiency within the development team.
Performs other relatedduties as assigned by management.
BS. Degree (M.S.preferred) in Engineering or related field and three to five years relatedexperience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education andexperience.
Must have extensive knowledge withinthe field of engineering specific to product development (i.e. mechanical:fluid dynamics, thermal dynamics, static force analysis, dynamic forceanalysis, and other mechanical property related topics). Stays abreast withinengineering field.
Must be a self-starter, withdemonstrated autonomy, able to handle unexpected events and take advantage ofopportunities to achieve results that consistently exceed expectations
Must perform as a flexible teammember and be a proficient leader and developer of people
Must be able to work successfullyand lead in team efforts - experience in cross functional team leadershipand/or participation.
Must be able to communicate withemployees at all levels in the organization, customers of all background, andtechnical partners from different industries.
Effective use of time and resourcesto accomplish product development objectives.
Proficient in MS Office and otherapplicable drawing/design software related to specific Engineering field.
Knowledge and experience in 3Dmodeling simulation software is desired.
Knowledge of construction andfabrication methods.
Must have strong knowledge in thescientific method.
Understanding of Lean manufacturing,Agile methodology, and basic financial accounting knowledge is preferred.
Ability to interpret a variety oftechnical data furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and dealwith several abstract, conceptual variables.
Ability to travel to job sites (domestically andinternationally, if required) for new product evaluation or to review existingproduct issues.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
